Into the application

The deck has a groove cut into it which had previously been filled with a sealant.  The plan was to use this again but it would have been a weak point in the Clear System.  Dave proposed that the team to fill the grooves with Bote Cote tinted with black pigment.  By using the pigmented Bote Cote it worked its way into porous areas, cracks and 'nooks n crannies' to glue everything together.  This ensured a solid base to apply the Bote Cote with Non Yellowing Hardener over it locking everything together.  If sealant had been used then coated with Bote Cote; it would have cracked along the groove edge as it would have been a weak point.

The problem was that the epoxy wanted to run to the lowest point which was the stern of the boat. Dave provided the solution of covering the surface with duct tape once filled with the pigmented Bote Cote to contain it and prevent it running to the lowest point.  Below is a pictorial of the sequence of events.

The first step was to tape each side of the groove and putty all cracks/holes underneath to prevent the Bote Cote escaping.

Due to the deck not being flat the liquid Bote Cote would migrate to the lowest point. To keep the Bote Cote even in the groove it was filled starting from the lowest point and covered with duct tape to hold the Bote Cote in position.

Then mix Bote Cote and add a small amount of black pigment.  SHF volunteer Gavin Reed showing great patience using a 10ml syringe filling grooves as seen in the picture featured on the left and filled grooves above.
