ROTFIX is a mixture of glycol and salts of boron. It is able to readily diffuse into moist timber and is the ideal way to stop Rot until the timber can be dried properly to carry out a permanent repair. To deal with rot in timber, as much as possible of the rotten material should be removed, and then the timber should be thoroughly saturated with the glycol/boron mixture. It is even beneficial to keep it damp for a few days to enhance its absorption into the surrounding sound timber. However, this is not the end of the story. The timber requires to be sealed to retain the glycol and boron salts, which could otherwise slowly diffuse out of the timber and be lost. Sealing time with epoxy resin is the most effective method known for excluding moisture and oxygen from the timber substrate. Therefore, once the glycol saturated timber has dried, which may take several days. This can be achieved using the "WOT ROT ROT REPAIR KIT" or for large areas contact us for your requirements. This two stage process, of chemically saturating timber to destroy organisms, followed by sealing it against further ingress of water, has proven highly effective in preserving timber structures in all environments - domestic, industrial and marine. |
